Graded Examinations 2016


Dear parents,

There are two Chinese Instrumental Graded Exams coming up in Nov/ Dec 2016. Quite a number of our members have already registered for one of these exams. If your child is keen to take the exam, please register for him/ her soon as closing date is around the corner.

Kindly note that you will have to register for the exam on your own. You may seek the instructors' advice on choosing the grade that is appropriate for your child. However, our instructors are not obliged to train your child for the exam.

·         CO members to report to the Hall at 7.30am to rehearse for Nanyang Medley, ends at about 8.00am.

·         Attire: SYF costumes and black shoes, girls with long hair are to tie up their hair neatly
·         For both concerts, all pupils are to stay till the end of the respective concert for the Finale, except for the P6 CO members who may leave after the performance to attend Open House at various secondary schools.  
·         Lunch is not provided, except for the 4 pupils who perform for both the CO & Guzheng items.

23 Jun (Thurs) & 24 Jun (Fri): Leadership Training Camp & Holiday Practice
·         Leadership Training Camp (9am to 1pm) is organised for our presidents, sectional leaders and P6s. Lunch (1pm to 2pm) is provided for pupils involved in camp.

·         Holiday Practice (2pm to 5pm) follows the usual day, time & venues.

Nanyang Gems on Sat 28 May

Please be informed that Chinese Orchestra will perform at Concert 1 (10am to 11.30am), while Guzheng will perform at Concert 2 (1.30pm to 3.00pm). Details will be given in due course.
As this is a major school event and a platform for our performing arts groups to showcase their talents and work as a team, we would like to emphasise the importance of having all school-team members to participate at this event!
P6 CO members who intend to attend Open House of some secondary schools on that day, you may leave after performing while others will stay for the grand finale. For P6 GZ members, please attend the Open House in the morning and report for Concert 2 at 12.30pm.
Pupils who have classes on Saturday, please make arrangement to attend this school event.

2016 SYF Arts Presentation for Chinese Orchestra & Guzheng


Our Guzheng team has attained Certificate of Accomplisment for SYF 2016 Arts Presentation for Instrumental Ensemble (Guzheng). Congratulations! We are proud of the hard work and perseverance you have put in! =)

NYGH Guzheng Concert (16 April 2016 19.00-20.30)

Nanyang Girls’ High School Guzheng Ensemble will be having their biennial concert《紫韵筝情》in April. Details of Concert are as follows: 


Date: 16 April 2016 (Saturday)
Time: 7p.m.- 8:30p.m. 
Venue: Nanyang Girls’ High School Siew May Auditorium, 2 Linden Drive
Ticket Price: $10 

A wide variety of songs will be performed during this concert, ranging from the classical Chinese music to the latest, well-known popular modern tunes. These unique pieces are arranged and conducted by Ms Lim Choo Li, their conductor and instructor, who is also a well-regarded figure in the Chinese Orchestra scene.

The 2015 SYF team will also be performing 《春江花月夜》 and 《丝绸之路》. They were awarded Gold with Distinction for their performance of these two pieces.

We are helping interested pupils and their family members to get tickets only. Please make own arrangment to attend the concert. 

Kindly inform Mdm Wendy Wong or Ms Yee Pei Xiu by next Thursday 10 Mar 2016, 5pm . Order of tickets will be closed by then. Payment mode will be advised nearer to the concert day.

Info on SYF Rehearsal (25 Feb Thurs) for Parent-Volunteers

Dear parent-volunteers,

First of all, thank you very much for volunteering! Your help is much appreciated. =)

Please take note of the followings:
Parent-volunteers’ Attire: Dark blue top and long dark-coloured pants
Reporting Time & Venue: 16.30 at Music Room 3 (CRC Level 4)

Tentative Plan:
14.00 Practice as usual
16.30 Parent-volunteers to report to Music Room
16.30-17.00 Dinner (PVs included)
17.00-17.30 Movement and loading of instruments
17.30 Set off to Singapore Conference Hall (SCH)
19.00-20.00 Rehearsal
20.15 Return to school from SCH
21.30 Dismissal

When the children shift the instruments, your help is much needed, especially for the heavy and bulky instruments. A maximum of 12 helpers are allowed on stage on actual SYF day, so on rehearsal day, we may assign 12 of you to help on stage.

Please take note that only Gate E & F (Coronation Road) will be opened during dismissal. If you intend to drive to school, please park your vehicles at the carpark at CRC campus when you report at 16.30. However, there are limited slots. You are encouraged to take public transport.

There may be changes on the day itself. Your help is needed when the children shift the instruments to the Hall for rehearsal at 12.00. After which you may join them for lunch around 13.30 or have a break before reporting again at backstage at 15.00, to assist in clearing the stage and shifting the instruments back to Music Room. We hope everything will go smoothly and have all be dismissed by 15.45. We apologise in advance if there is any delay.

For parents who are driving, you are encouraged to park your vehicles at the carparks at Queen’s Road.

Please be informed that for the Nanyang Family Tuan Bai this Saturday, 20 Feb, CO members will have to report at 11am, and will be dismissed at about 3.45pm. There is a change in the dismissal time as the programmes are updated.

2016 Chinese New Year Celebrations

For the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations in school, our Chinese Orchestra and Guzheng school teams will be putting up the following performances:

1) Guzheng Ensemble 

Event: School Chinese New Year Concert (Both Sessions)
Date: 10 Feb 2016 (Wed)
Venue: School Hall
Attire: Any red T-shirt and school skirt/ shorts, with school shoes 
Remarks:
Pupils and parent volunteers are to report to CO Room immediately after dismissal at the Basketball Court. For wet weather, please leave the Classroom (P3-P6) or Hall (P2) and report to CO Room latest by 8.30am
The first concert will begin at 8.30am. Guzheng performance is the last item, which will start at about 9.50am. After which, pupils and parent volunteers are to stay for the second concert. Guzheng performance will be the first item, which will begin at about 11.00am. After the performance and returning the instruments to CO Room, pupils may go for Recess till 12.30pm. After Recess,
P3 & 5 pupils are to return to their respective class, while P2, 4 & 6 pupils are to join their respective class in the Hall for the rest of the CNY Concert. 
P3 Guzheng school team members should be excused from the CNY Visitation. 

2) Chinese Orchestra 
Event: Nanyang Family Tuan Bai
Date: 20 Feb 2016 (Sat)
Time: 1.30pm to 4.00pm (TBC)
Venue: NYPS School Hall
Attire: CO costumes with black shoes and socks 
Remarks:
We are unable to advise on the reporting time and dismissal time for the time being as the programme is not finalised. Meanwhile, please make the necessary arrangements to keep that afternoon free, and get black shoes and black socks ready for your child.

We will start to give out CO costumes tomorrow (29 Jan) to the CO school team members. Pupils are reminded NOT to wear the costumes during Chinese New Year and CNY celebration in school on 10 Feb. The costumes are to be returned in good condition after SYF.

Calling for Parent-Volunteers for SYF!

Dear parents,

This year our Chinese Orchestra and Guzheng Ensemble will be participating in the SYF Arts Presentation (AP) in mid April. The AP emphasizes on students' learning through the preparation process. Parents' involvement will be an integral part of the whole process.

We are inviting parents to be volunteers to help out in the SYF rehearsals and the actual AP. Your involvement will definitely encourage and motivate the children in working towards their goal.

The dates for the SYF rehearsals and the actual AP are as follows:

Guzheng Ensemble
Rehearsal:    12 Feb 2016 (Fri) 3-4pm@Singapore Conference Hall
Actual Day: 11-13 Apr 2016  (exact date to be confirmed)

Chinese Orchestra
Rehearsal:    25 Feb 2016 (Thurs) 7-8pm@Singapore Conference Hall
Actual Day: 14-15, 18-20 Apr 2016 (exact date to be confirmed)

Details will be provided in due course.

We are looking for parent-volunteers (PVs) who can help out on both the rehearsal and actual AP days, as PVs need to get familiar with the flow of events and the seating arrangement on stage. For each group, we need a maximum of 12 PVs.

Consent form for the rehearsals will be issued soon. You may indicate your interest to be a PV on the consent form or drop me an email at law_mei_fai@nyps.edu.sg.

2016 Updates!

Dear parents,

As you may have noticed from the Semester 1 Schedule, I am appointed as the NYPSCO CCA Head this year. We will work together to ensure that your children have an enriching and enjoyable CCA!

Miss Teo Chiang Yen will continue to lead Chinese Orchestra as the Vice Head (she's more like an adviser!!). We also have two other Vice Heads, namely Mr Fei Meng and Mdm Wendy Wong.
